Who are we?
The Tabernacle Church (The Tab) is a thriving multicultural church family who have been in central Lewisham for over 50 years! People of all ages and backgrounds make this church their home and are passionate about reaching & helping others to find life in Christ. Our heartbeat is to love God and love people.
A strong part of The Tab DNA is what they refer to as ‘People Helping People’ (PHP), “we believe strongly in sharing our resources to supporting and extending a helping hand especially to the disenfranchised of our community.” As a result the Tab invests hundreds of manpower hours and thousands of pounds within Lewisham on a plethora of community initiatives and programmes which include, for example; supporting young people, the elderly, and also running Lewisham centrals main food bank from the current church premises.
The Tab currently serves Lewisham from their existing Algernon Road base, a redbrick Victorian Grade II listed building. “Our deep roots in Lewisham stretch back to the first building we owned in the early days (1960’s and early 70’s) on Campshill Road which is only 300 yards from the high street building location off Courthill Road. So we are by no means strangers to this part of central Lewisham! Constrained by our current location, this new building on the high street will enable us to extend our community programmes and house our thriving church membership.”
